Discover the Charming Village that Captured their Hearts

Nestled in the stunning Andalusian countryside, the charming village of Moclin has become the backdrop for Amanda Holden and Alan Carr’s most ambitious renovation project yet. Known for its breathtaking views, historic castle, and welcoming community, Moclin captured their hearts and inspired the latest series of their hit show, Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job.

From Ruin to Renovation

Following their renovation successes in Sicily and Tuscany, Amanda and Alan took on a new challenge—a grand but crumbling property in Moclin, which they plan to transform into a beautiful bed and breakfast. From ceilings that had collapsed into the lower floors to walls in desperate need of repair, the scale of this project was unlike anything they’d faced before. But as always, the duo brought their signature humour, friendship, and infectious energy to the task.

The Dream Team Behind the Renovation

The project wouldn’t have been possible without the expertise of Scott Thompson, the show’s renovation guru. While Amanda and Alan wielded sledgehammers and tested their DIY skills on tiling and decorating, Scott and his team took on the heavy lifting, including structural repairs.

A Glimpse into Village Life

As proud owners of holiday apartments in Moclin, we frequently saw Amanda and Alan enjoying life in the village. It was a delight to see the duo mingling with locals, and we often shared a beer with Scott, swapping renovation tales and relaxing at Bar la Plaza, the village bar.

What Makes Moclin So Special

What makes Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job so captivating isn’t just the transformation of the property but the way it highlights the charm of Moclin. From its rolling hills and historic castle to its warm and welcoming community, the village is showcased as the perfect blend of history and modern life. The series also celebrates the simplicity of life in Andalusia—plates of tapas, glasses of wine, and breathtaking scenery.

A Lasting Legacy

Amanda and Alan’s project has brought well-deserved attention to Moclin, and it’s been wonderful to see how their adventure has showcased the magic of the area we call home. Their renovation journey is now forever tied to Moclin’s story, a testament to its unique charm and inspiring community spirit.

Welcome to Casa la Cabra, your perfect holiday accommodation nestled in the heart of Moclin, Granada, Andalucia. If you’re looking for an unforgettable hiking experience, look no further than the stunning Gollizno Route, located just 200 meters from our doorstep. This enchanting trail, spanning approximately 7 kilometers, is a hidden gem waiting to be explored, taking around three hours to complete.

A Scenic Journey Begins

As you descend Esperanza Street toward the charming village of Olivares, the road transforms into a wide track that invites you to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Andalusian landscape. Along the way, you’ll pass by picturesque almond trees, lush olive groves, and inviting picnic areas, all while soaking in the serene atmosphere. Don’t miss the former hermitage that adds a touch of history to your journey.

The Gollizno Route also traces the Camino Mozárabe de Santiago, a historic pilgrimage path that winds its way from Olivares. This section offers breathtaking panoramic views of Granada, the Vega de Granada, and the majestic Sierra Nevada in the distance. Keep in mind that this part of the trail has little shade, so it’s best to tackle it in the morning or late afternoon.

A Refreshing Detour

Upon reaching the outskirts of Olivares, the route takes a left turn under an old mill arch, leading you alongside the tranquil Rio Velillos. If you’re in need of a refreshment break, consider taking a short detour into the village to enjoy a drink at one of the local bars before continuing your adventure.

Walking alongside the tree-lined banks of the Rio Velillos, you’ll cross a small bridge and begin a gradual ascent through the stunning Tajos de la Hoz. Here, you’ll encounter the Fuente de la Buena Ventura, where the views of the gorge are simply breathtaking. For those seeking a longer trek, there’s an option to extend your journey to Tózar, or you can continue over the swing bridge back toward Moclín.

Climbing to New Heights

After crossing the bridge, the path leads you along the shady riverbank before starting the climb to the Fuente de Corcuela. This section features a steep zig-zagging path up the rock face, complete with roped guide-rails for your safety. The shaded trail is a perfect spot for wildlife enthusiasts, as it’s common to spot ibex in this area.

Once you pass the Fuente de Corcuela, you’ll turn left back toward Moclín, where the castle ramparts atop the hill come into view. If you’re feeling adventurous, take a short diversion to your right through an olive grove to discover the fascinating Neolithic cave paintings of Corcuela.

A Grand Finale

Returning to the main path, the climb continues as you wind your way through ancient pine forests, leading you back toward the village and the chapel of San Anton. From here, you can choose to continue uphill toward the castle, the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation, and the sanctuary of Cristo del Paño.

The Gollizno Route is not just a hike; it’s an experience that combines natural beauty, rich history, and the thrill of adventure.
